Open now! Training on Vulnerability Assessment & Adaptation

06/06/2025

Following on with our Training programme on climate change adaptation in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), MPA4Change partners are pleased to announce the opening of a new training course: the Hybrid Training on Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation.

Toolkits on climate change adaptation

In this course, participants will be able to learn how to implement three different Toolkits to develop climate change adaptation plans in MPAs. Specifically, the toolkits focus on:

  • Vulnerability Assessment Toolkit: A validated methodology on how to implement a climate vulnerability assessment in MPAs by integrating ecological and social factors. The methodology relies on an indicator-based approach, which combines exposure and sensitivity to climate change, with the adaptive capacity.
  • Participatory Approaches Toolkit: A toolkit dedicated to the application of practical tools for carrying out stakeholder engagement and public participation processes, both essential elements for success.
  • Adaptation Plans Toolkit: a step-by-step process on how to design climate change adaptation plans through participatory decision-making process. Building on the previous knowledge acquired, this toolkit serves as a wrap up of the training.

Similarly to the previous training courses on Monitoring and Citizen Science, the Hybrid Training on Vulnerability Assessment & Adaptation will be available both in Hybrid, including an online part and a face-to-face part, and Just Online formats.

Just online training

At the time of opening this course, the Vulnerability Assessment toolkit is already available in the MPA4Change e-learning platform for its review. The Participatory Approaches and Adaptation Plans Toolkits will progressively open to participants in the month of June.

Participants willing to engate just in the online training can access it through the MPA4Change e-learning platform at any time. Registrations to the e-learning platform are required and free of charge.

Hybrid training

The practical training will take place in person in Brijuni National Park from 22 to 26 September. Located in the Northern Adriatic Sea, in Croatia, the Brijuni National Park is an archipelago composed by fourteen islands that shelter a thriving marine life.

Participants willing to engage in the face-to-face trainig will need to:
