We are thrilled to invite you to an online webinar dedicated to the presentation of the training programme on “Developing Climate Change Adaptation Plans for Marine Protected Areas in the Mediterranean Region.”
This webinar/workshop will explore:
- The role of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the strategy to mitigate and adapt to the climate emergency: context, opportunities and challenges and;
- The training programme, focusing on the development of effective climate change adaptation plans for Mediterranean MPAs.
The ultimate goal is to boost the role of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) as pillars for resilience of coastal communities and biodiversity protection in the face of climate change.
Background information
Climate change is drastically affecting Mediterranean marine and coastal ecosystems. Rising sea temperatures and marine heatwaves are causing species die-offs and boosting invasive species, harming biodiversity. Coastal areas face erosion, flooding, and salinization, while ocean acidification threatens calcifying organisms. These impacts also reduce fish stocks, endangering fisheries and local livelihoods. Join our webinar to learn more about: i) the role of MPAs in the strategy to mitigate and adapt to the climate emergency: context, opportunities and challenges and ii) the training program focusing on the development of effective climate change adaptation plans for Mediterranean MPAs. The webinar and training are organized by the Interreg EuroMED MPA4CHANGE and WWF’s Blue South Med Projects
